To Germany with Love: A Defender 90 and 110
Peter and his wife Lucy travelled from Germany to the Billing Land Rover Show in search of someone to help them create their dream Defender 90. They wanted an automatic model that would be easy for Lucy to use as a daily driver. Peter explained that Cult 4×4 stood out as “the only stand offering similar services that actually gave us any time to discuss the project,” which gave them the confidence to proceed.
After understanding their needs, we restored and converted a Defender 90 to meet their specifications, including a left-hand drive (LHD) conversion to suit their use in Germany. The project’s success led Peter to return two years later, this time requesting a restoration and LHD conversion of a Defender 110 manual 300Tdi.
The relationship didn’t stop there—we later built a 300Tdi automatic Defender for Peter’s brother, who lives in the UK.
Both Peter and Lucy now enjoy their dream Defenders, tailored perfectly to their lifestyle and needs. Their satisfaction with the process, attention to detail, and the resulting vehicles have made them loyal Cult 4×4 customers, and their story is a testament to the importance of taking the time to understand a client’s vision.
Land Rover Defender 110 300Tdi County Station Wagon (1998)
This client wanted a dependable 300Tdi County Station Wagon for daily use as a consultant. They sought a high-quality rebuild to ensure the vehicle was both reliable and stylish.
We sourced a suitable base vehicle through our part-exchange scheme and began a comprehensive restoration. The process included a full body rebuild, fresh paint, and corrosion treatment. The chassis was thoroughly cleaned, a new rear cross member was installed, and a full Waxoyl coating was applied for long-lasting protection. Internally, we added heated half-leather seats, matching covers for the rear and middle rows, new carpets, an upgraded stereo system, and a heated windscreen.
Externally, white Wolf rims with BF Goodrich All-Terrain tires and heritage decals completed the look.
The restored Defender exceeded the client’s expectations and even featured in Land Rover Monthly. It is now a reliable and authentic daily driver that turns heads wherever it goes.
Ruby – Land Rover Defender 90 TD5 CSW
In 2017, Steve approached us to create a surprise 60th birthday gift for his wife, Julie—a lifelong Land Rover enthusiast. Her dream was to own a Defender, and Steve wanted it to be truly special.
We started with a galvanised chassis and rebuilt the original axles, engine, gearbox, and transfer box. A Red Booster clutch kit was added for improved drivability. The body was stripped to bare metal, with any subpar panels replaced, and new doors were fitted. After epoxy priming, the body received a stunning ruby-red metallic finish with a clear coat lacquer.
Inside, we installed heated half-leather seats, full soundproofing, new carpets, and a heated windscreen. Externally, the vehicle featured LED running lights, a nudge bar, side steps, a roof rack, and Boost alloy wheels with Continental CrossContact tires.
Julie’s reaction on her birthday was priceless when Steve surprised her! Ruby now serves as a cherished symbol of Steve’s thoughtful gesture, delivering bags of character but with plenty of modern comforts and driving ease.
Basil – Land Rover Defender 2003 TD5 SW
Chris and Victoria had recently returned to Suffolk after years in Africa and needed a Defender to tow a horse box around the countryside. Overwhelmed by the complexities of purchasing the right vehicle, they turned to Cult 4×4 for guidance.
We sourced Chris a donor 110 pick-up vehicle and began a ground-up restoration. The chassis was in good condition, but we replaced the front cross member and used a reconditioned bulkhead as good measure. The body was repainted in classic Epsom Green, complemented by a heritage front end, LED headlights, body color-matched Wolf wheels, and a galvanised bumper. Interior upgrades included heated seats, new seat covers, and rear bench seating for nine passengers.
Chris, Victoria, and their daughters were thrilled with the result. Basil is now a much loved part of their family, frequently seen towing a horse box around Suffolk. Give them a wave if you them!

His Truck Restored: A Sentimental Defender Rebuilt
After successfully completing a roll in his Defender , the owner approached us with a special request: to rebuild the vehicle while retaining as much of the original as possible. This truck held significant sentimental value, and it was crucial to him that the restored vehicle still felt like “his truck” rather than becoming a completely replaced version or, as he put it, a “Trigger’s Broom.”
We carefully assessed the damage and salvaged every original part that could be restored and reused without compromising safety or quality. This meticulous approach ensured the rebuilt Defender stayed as close as possible to the original while incorporating repairs where necessary to make it roadworthy again.
The owner was thrilled with the final result, appreciating how we preserved the essence of the original truck while handling the rebuild with care and respect. For him, it’s more than just a vehicle—it’s still “his truck,” tied to the memories and moments that made it special.
Dave’s Wolf - From Stalled Project to Family Overlander
Dave brought us his Land Rover Wolf, a former MOD communications vehicle that he had already started restoring himself. However, with the demands of running his business, the project had stalled. The vehicle arrived with us half stripped, dented, and missing a few panels.
Dave’s vision wasn’t to create a pristine showpiece. Instead, he wanted a capable overland camper he could use with his family—something practical, honest, and ready for adventure.
We worked with Dave to complete the restoration while staying true to the vehicle’s character. During the paintwork stage, he made an unusual request: to keep some of the dents. They told the story of the vehicle’s working life in the military, and he wanted that history preserved rather than erased.
The build focused on functionality and durability. The Wolf was transformed into a two-tone overlanding machine, fitted with a roof tent, interior sleeping space, waterproof boarding throughout, and a full leisure battery system to power lighting, a fridge, and other essentials when off grid.
What started as a stalled project is now a dependable family adventure vehicle. Built to be used rather than polished, Dave’s Wolf is ready for the road, the campsite, and whatever adventures come next.
The Cult 4x4 Defender 130 - Built to Show What’s Possible
This one was a little different. Rather than a customer brief, this Defender 130 was built by Cult 4×4 as a demonstration vehicle, a truck designed to show exactly what the team is capable of when they go all out.
The starting point wasn’t glamorous. The vehicle had been in a rough state when acquired from a farmer, with parts missing and a lot of work needed to bring it back to life.
What followed was a full ground-up rebuild, approached with the same care and attention that goes into every customer project.
The team stripped the truck back completely and rebuilt it from the chassis up. The chassis was sandblasted and powder coated before being reassembled with all new bushes, springs, shocks and rebuilt axles. A new transfer box with LOF solid output shaft was fitted along with heavy-duty steering arms and upgraded drilled and grooved brakes with new calipers.
Under the bonnet, the 2.2 TDCi engine received a Stage 3 remap, while the interior was upgraded with XS specification features including electric windows, air conditioning, heated seats and heated screen, finished with a Modus cloth interior and full soundproofing.
Externally, the truck received a full body-off respray using an epoxy primer base and five-layer paint finish in ‘Quick Sand’ beige. It was then fitted with a Bowler front bumper, TerraFirma side bars, LED lighting, new Wolf wheels with BF Goodrich All-Terrain tyres, and a full Optimill external pack in black anodised finish — including hinges, handles, mirror arms with puddle lights and other detailed touches.
At the rear, the Defender was set up for serious practicality with a full 130 tow pack and an Exmoor Trim canvas cover mounted on heavy-duty bars, supported by a solid aluminium roof underneath to prevent sagging.
The result is a Defender 130 that’s quite simply better than new — a fully rebuilt truck designed to demonstrate what a proper Cult 4×4 build looks like when nothing is held back.
It’s a showcase vehicle for the business, but like all good Defenders, it’s built to be driven and enjoyed. And while it currently serves as the Cult 4×4 demo truck, it may well find a new home one day — if the right discerning buyer comes along.
